Love is like the wild rose-briar;
Friendship like the holly-tree
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms
But which will bloom most constantly?
The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,

Yet wait till winter comes again,
And who will call the wild-bria
Then, scorn the silly rose-wreath now
And deck thee with holly、
That, when December blights thy brow
He still may leave thy garland green
愛(ài)情像野玫瑰，友情像冬青。
當(dāng)玫瑰開(kāi)花的時(shí)候，冬青卻墨綠著，表示愛(ài)情激烈而友情則平淡。
哪種能保持盛開(kāi)的狀態(tài)，答案當(dāng)然是后者。
野玫瑰在春天和夏天開(kāi)花，花香四溢。.
但是到了冬天，誰(shuí)會(huì)說(shuō)它漂亮呢?
表示愛(ài)情之花盛開(kāi)的時(shí)候十分甜蜜，但過(guò)了高潮，就不再值得稱道了。
冬青在平時(shí)不很惹眼，甚至遭人唾棄，但當(dāng)冬天來(lái)臨，萬(wàn)物皆枯萎的時(shí)候，
